I am extremely pleased to invite your participation as a sponsor in an event unlike any other.
An event that will have tremendous grassroots appeal, reaching across a wide demographic, and orchestrated to shine a spotlight on an amazing man whose journey needs to be heard and applauded. Our sponsors should share in that spotlight for helping to make his accomplishments known in a fantastic event that is about to unfold.
This donation request revolves around Bruce Meyers. Bruce is an incredible artist, a visionary who invented the instantly recognizable shape universally known as the “dune buggy”: the 1964 Meyers Manx.
I am proud to serve as the non-salaried President of the volunteer Board of Directors of the Manx Dune Buggy Club. Over 4,000 members strong worldwide, the Manx Club was started by Bruce and Winnie Meyers in 1995. The membership ranks quickly outgrew their ability to manage the club singlehandedly, so the club was turned over to the membership a few years ago and established as a 501(c)(7) non-for-profit corporation by the State of California.
But, enough about the past, let me get to the exciting part, and the reason for my letter. Bruce recently spoke of a dream he’s had since he first created the dune buggy, the desire to drive a dune buggy cross country. Not content to stop there, Bruce, now 87 years old, is going to build, then drive, a Meyers Manx dune buggy across the United States! Dubbed the Manx Club Sea-to-Sea Safari, this 2700-plus mile drive will take place in October of this year. The drive is timed to pull into Nags Head North Carolina just as the Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s club week-long event, Manx on the Banx, is slated to begin. We’ll invite local television and newspaper reporters to drop in and talk to Bruce along the way. After all, very few octogenarians would attempt such a strenuous feat. This is a national human interest story that will capture the hearts and imaginations of everyone who hears it.
I have very ambitious plans for this event, as all of us in the club have a heightened level of respect, love, and admiration for Bruce, his spirit, and the lifestyle he alone created. We feel it is our duty to help Bruce make this dream a reality, and we’d welcome your help in making it happen.
This is how we’re going to go about it. First, the creation of this website set up not only to publicize and report on the event, but to post photos of the buggy build as it progresses. Next, we’ll mail out announcements to all Manx Club members beforehand, inviting them to join the Safari, even if it’s just through their home state or town. We’ll print and mail a schedule of events to our membership and media outlets, showing the overnight stop areas where they, along with sponsors and the general public can drop in and join us for dinner. We’ll make regular photo uploads, video uploads, and blogs all along the way, plus the entire Safari will be reported on through the eyes of an editor from Hot Rod Magazine who is coming along for the ride.
Lastly, in the tradition of “saving the best for last”: The Manx Club will sell tickets and raffle off the Bruce Meyers-built and driven dune buggy to one very lucky winner in the summer of 2014.
What do we need? Plain and simple: funding from sponsors, donated products, anything that helps us build and drive Bruce’s car from sea-to-sea. The money raised will be used for the buggy build itself and to cover Bruce and Winnie’s personal expenses: food, lodging, gas, etc. Anyone who joins Bruce on this run, however, will do so at their own expense, although we will ask for discounted rates for all attendees from host hotels and restaurants.
What’s in it for our Sponsors? In addition to helping Bruce realize his dream and help us celebrate his accomplishments, we also provide you dedicated sponsorship space with your company logo and web link on our website, your logo on our event shirt, on the chase trailer following the Safari, and on the step and repeat backdrop where Bruce will be interviewed on our nightly stops. Or, please let us know what suits you best . . . A ride with Bruce in his buggy along the beach of the Atlantic Ocean, maybe route the Safari to pass by your business, or the use of the buggy in a television commercial or print ad. Whatever it is, we’ll sure try to make it happen. We want to ensure those that support us receive maximum coverage for their contribution. To date, we have secured sponsorship commitments from both Platinum and Silver level participants, of which we are extremely grateful. We’d love to include your name on that list as well.
There are six contribution levels, and participation may take shape in either a cash donation or by providing goods and services for the values shown below.
